The Political Economy of International Organizations
January 28 – 30, 2010
The PEIO conference brings together economists, political scientists and other scholars to address political-economy issues related to any international organization, including the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the World Trade Organization, and the European Union, as well as other regional organizations and non-governmental organizations. Questions we seek to address include how IOs are organized and governed, what are the incentives of governments dealing with IOs as well as the incentives of the bureaucrats who staff them, and what are the effects of IOs on policy outcomes. We also consider the interaction of IOs with transnational actors such as commercial lobbies and NGOs. Finally, we have a particular interest in the interaction of the international political economy with the domestic political economy of IOs members.
The conference aims to be international in character. Previous PEIO conferences have included contributions from scholars of various national origins, including Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Korea, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Portugal, South Africa, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. This year we hope to build on and expand this diversity.

Conference Attendance, Accommodation, and Registration:
Authors of accepted papers are expected to attend all conference sessions (a small number of additional participants may attend by invitation only; the conference is closed to the public). Authors are expected to cover their own expenses. Partial refunding of expenses for authors from developing countries can be considered on request following acceptance of the paper. There is no registration fee.
Authors should bring their presentation on a USB stick and make sure the presentation is uploaded before the session starts. Presentations are limited to 12 minutes. For the posters, we provide boards to either post a full DIN A0 poster or single pieces of paper.
